Send them to the ultimate source here!: http://www.eatstress.com/special_offer.htm Stressful Situation By: Fire “Captain Rob” Even those who have more than prepared are often stumped by a very simple question. It has been asked for years and still people are caught flatfooted. The question is, “Tell us about a stressful situation you have had in your life”? Or, “What is the most difficult thing you have had to go through and how did you deal with it? You can see the wheels start spinning. All facial expression leaves them as they try to figure out what are we looking for? What have they been through or done that will qualify and make them look good at the same time. Let me give you a tip. There is no “right” answer that we are looking for. There is nowhere on our ratings sheet where we can mark that you got it right or got it wrong. You are scored and graded by not only what you say but also how you say it. I will tell you that the second a question like this is asked the correct answer came right to you. It is one of those cases where your brain knows and you try to argue with it. You are just trying to think if it is right, is it what were looking for, or does it fit? I had one guy tell me that it was when he had to quit medic school half way through to be with his dad as he died of cancer. He said it was a very tough decision, but would have hated himself if he hadn’t had those two years with his dad. Another guy said it was when he was working in a real estate office and someone didn’t like him and they wouldn’t help him in any way. He said he used the Internet to make friends with an agent at another office and was able to make due. Another guy told me about blowing out his knee. I don’t recommend bringing up any physical injuries in your interview. But he finished by saying he rehabbed and was then employed by Nike as a sprinter and was running 4-minute miles. One candidate said the toughest thing in his life was when his pregnant wife had a heart attack. He called 911 and gave CPR until help arrived. His wife didn’t survive. He told of how he emotionally put his life back together with his son. He was concerned if he should use this answer? Who else could tell the story? Emotions can rise on the other side of the table when this type of life experience is presented. No two of these answers are the same, but they were all the correct answer. They told of their bad times, how it affected then, over came it, or learned from it. It isn’t a bad idea to come up with an answer to a question like this and others that you hear about to be ready for the unexpected and you won’t get stumped. When it comes let it happen. Your brain knows the right answer. Don’t argue with it. Where ever you might be stuck in the hiring process from the written or video testing, physical agility CPAT, oral interview, psych interview, background, polygraph, or medical, you can find new powerful information on Captain Rob’s web site here: www.myfireinterview.com
